After a baby with Patau syndrome died at Kaunas clinics, the mother's lawyer shared her outrage that the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service is seeking to take the supposedly dead baby and 6 other children from the family from the family. This happened because Kaunas clinics informed child rights advocates about the baby's complex condition, but did not have time to report the death.
Having just buried her two-month-old daughter, who suffered from a rare genetic disease – Patau syndrome, Smiltėja Žlabienė, a mother of six children from Ukmergė, has suffered another merciless blow. Instead of peacefully mourning the death of her newborn, the woman interviewed by Lrytas claims that today she lives in fear of losing her family. After the death of her daughter, she has to fight for the right to raise her other six children.
