After $5.8B investment, LNG Canada to host ‘Big Thank You Party’ in Kitimat

On Saturday, Aug. 16, The Big Thank You Party takes place at the Riverlodge Recreation Centre from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., celebrating LNG Canada's milestone with community festivities.
LNG Canada’s construction spanned five years with a peak workforce of 7,000 to 9,000 people, drawing over 50,000 Canadians to Phase 1, without attribution.
Over $5.8 billion in contracts were awarded to B.C. businesses and local First Nations, including a $500-million contract with HaiSea Marine for low-emission tugboat services.
LNG Canada Chief Operating Officer Theresa Watson said, `The Big Thank You Party is an opportunity for all of us to gather for a day of celebration and family fun, and to honour what we have accomplished, together,` while Phil Germuth added, `it’s been really amazing how LNG Canada did all the pre-planning to make sure any negative effects would be as small as possible.`
Since inception in 2018, LNG Canada has collaborated closely with Kitimat and Kitamaat Village residents, and the first cargo shipped June 30 was acknowledged by leaders including the prime minister.
