Burundian President Evarist Ndayishimiye was appointed on Thursday 17 July as the African Union's special envoy for the Sahel. His mission will be to intensify exchanges with governments and work for the return of peace in the Sahel, where three countries, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, which face the jihadist threat, are suspended from the organization following unconstitutional changes of government.

Luanda, 18 Jul (Latin Press) The president of Angola and incumbent of the African Union, João Lourenço, appointed his counterpart from Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, as his special envoy for the Sahel region, reported today a statement.
