BMW Pulls Car Lease Offer From German Far-Right Politician
The company gave no reason as the Landtag said BMW was the only major German maker to bid for the official-car contract.
- On Tuesday, BMW cancelled a leasing offer for the official car of Saxony-Anhalt parliament president Tobias Rausch, providing no explanation for the withdrawal on the day he was elected.
- Shortly before the move, BMW chief executive Milan Nedeljković criticized right-wing populism as 'poison for an open business location that lives off world trade,' while the company reshapes amid job cuts.
- Rausch currently uses the BMW 7 Series previously assigned to predecessor Gunnar Schellenberger; the Landtag administration must secure a replacement before the lease expires in November, as BMW was the only major German manufacturer to bid.
- On yesterday, Beatrix von Storch, deputy leader of the AfD's parliamentary group in the Bundestag, asked Elon Musk on X whether Tesla would provide an official car for Rausch.
- Rausch is the first AfD politician to head a German state parliament, securing the role after his party won 43.8 per cent of the seats in the September 6 chamber election.
