Archer Plans Downtown LA’s First Vertiport
AEG and Archer said the site will support 10- to 20-minute electric air taxi trips that could replace two-hour drives in traffic.
- On Monday, AEG and Archer Aviation announced a multiyear partnership to develop downtown Los Angeles's first vertiport at the 4 million-square-foot L.A. Live complex, positioning the site as a central hub before the 2028 Olympics.
- Archer's planned network already spans SoFi Stadium, USC, LAX, Hollywood Burbank Airport, and Hawthorne Airport; the Midnight aircraft carries four passengers at speeds up to 150 mph, completing trips in 10 to 20 minutes.
- The companies completed initial feasibility studies for the L.A. Live site, reviewing airspace, power availability, and community impact. Archer targets pricing comparable to premium rideshare services like Uber or Lyft, rather than traditional helicopter rates of $200 or more.
- Operations are planned to be fully functioning by the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics as Archer scales Midnight production at a Georgia factory. The Los Angeles service will likely start with a couple dozen units rather than hundreds.
- Beyond the Los Angeles network, Archer recently acquired Wisk Aero, Skygrid, and Insitu, while Boeing holds a 20% stake in the air taxi company. AEG Global Partnerships president and COO Nick Baker says the partnership could extend to AEG's portfolio of more than 100 venues worldwide.
