Adobe names Anil Chakravarthy as CEO, replacing Shantanu Narayen
The board picked an insider as Adobe faces pressure from new AI rivals and shares fell 1% in after-hours trading, the company said.
- On Thursday, Adobe named Anil Chakravarthy as its next CEO, effective December 1, 2026, succeeding CEO Shantanu Narayen. Narayen, who served over 18 years, will transition to executive chair.
- Facing a wave of new AI rivals, Adobe tasked Chakravarthy with protecting its design software dominance against challengers like Figma and Canva. The company aims to maintain market lead in Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign.
- Chakravarthy joined Adobe in 2020 to lead its digital experience business, overseeing global sales and customer-support teams. Before joining the Photoshop maker, he served as CEO of cloud data management company Informatica for four years.
- Shares of Adobe dropped about 2% in extended trading following the announcement. The company also announced the exit of finance chief Dan Durn, adding to internal uncertainty until a permanent successor is named.
- Adobe shares have fallen around 18% this year, following a decline of over 21% in 2025. While the company raised its annual profit forecast in June, investors remain worried about disruptions to its business.
