ADB cuts growth forecast to 3.7%
On Thursday, the Asian Development Bank maintained Pakistan's economic growth forecast at 3.7% for the current fiscal year while revising inflation projections upward to 8.3%.
Prolonged disruptions to global energy markets caused by the Middle East conflict continue to weigh on regional economic prospects, according to the ADB's latest Asian Development Outlook released on Thursday.
Pakistan's 8.3% inflation forecast ranks second highest in the region after Bangladesh's 8.8%, indicating the country faces greater economic challenges than Afghanistan, Bhutan, and Nepal.
The ADB warned that Pakistan is among 60 nations facing 10% to 12.5% additional United States tariffs starting July 24 following trade investigations by the USTR.
A Pakistani delegation is currently in the United States to broker a deal to avoid these charges, as public hearings regarding the trade investigations are scheduled for 7-15 July 2026.
