'Mission accomplished:' Fort Bliss Soldier Accused of Spying for Russia
EL PASO, TEXAS, AUG 7 – Taylor Adam Lee allegedly sought Russian citizenship by attempting to provide classified M1A2 Abrams tank data and hardware, officials said he acted from May through July 2025.
- Taylor Adam Lee, a 22-year-old active-duty U.S. Army soldier based at Fort Bliss, Texas, was taken into custody Wednesday for allegedly trying to transmit sensitive details about the M1A2 Abrams battle tank to the Russian government.
- Beginning in May 2025, Lee attempted to deliver classified U.S. military information to an individual he thought was connected to Russian intelligence, with the goal of obtaining Russian citizenship in return.
- In July, Lee met with the individual and handed over an SD card containing documents related to the M1A2 Abrams and combat operations; later, on July 31, 2025, he reportedly delivered a piece of tank equipment to a rental facility located in El Paso.
- Lee stated the data was sensitive and likely classified, and he sent online messages including "Mission accomplished" and admissions of volunteering to assist Russia, according to FBI Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky and Justice Department filings.
