‘Act Immediately’: Bushfire Threatening Homes in Ellenbrook
The bushfire burned three hectares, damaged six to eight properties, and forced evacuations as firefighters used aerial and ground support to contain the fast-moving blaze.
- On Thursday an emergency warning was issued for parts of Ellenbrook, north-east of Perth, at 3.19pm as firefighters and waterbombers fought the blaze threatening lives and homes.
- Originating in nearby bushland, the blaze began in a small pocket of bushland and was first reported about 2.45pm, spreading quickly in a north-easterly direction, DFES said.
- Authorities reported three hectares burned and damage to six to eight properties, including fences, a backyard gazebo, and aerial footage showing a cabana engulfed in flames.
- Residents in the alert area were ordered to leave south if safe as roads clogged, Tonkin Highway was briefly shut, and authorities later urged cautious returns after more than 100 homes faced evacuation.
- Federal and national officials placed the Ellenbrook blaze within a wider fire season, with Kristy McBain saying, `Over 400,000 hectares of land has been burnt in Victoria to date, and it is really important that communities continue to heed the advice of emergency services`.
