INEC Disowns Alleged Accord Party Factional Governorship Primary in Osun
INEC rejects a factional Accord Party primary naming Bamigbola Clement, affirming Ademola Adeleke's candidacy after a monitored official primary with 145 of 150 delegate votes.
- On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State said it was not notified of any governorship primary after reports of a parallel exercise in Osogbo, Musa Olurode, INEC Public Relations Officer , reiterated the commission was unaware of such an exercise.
- On Sunday, a rival primary in Osogbo produced Clement Bamigbola as candidate, days after the officially recognised Accord Party held its primary last Wednesday and chose Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.
- Babalola Akande said the second primary was impersonation, suspended organisers, and noted Mr Fanibe was expelled in 2018, lacking authority to act in the party.
- He maintained that Adeleke remains the duly nominated candidate and warned the party would pursue legal action against those legitimising factional candidates, Akande said.
- With the August 8, 2026 election looming, the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State said it monitored the officially recognised Accord Party primary and filed its report, while the faction that produced Governor Ademola Adeleke faulted the rival exercise as invalid.
