Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi Announces 11 December 2026 Opening of Guggenheim Abu Dhabi
The emirate is expanding its cultural district with a 100 billion dirham waterfront project and major museum exhibitions tied to the Guggenheim name.
- On Tuesday, DCT Abu Dhabi announced that Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, located on Saadiyat Island, will open to the public on December 11, 2026.
- The emirate has spent two decades developing the area into a cultural hub, home to offshoots of the Louvre and Guggenheim museums, through a partnership between DCT Abu Dhabi and the Solomon Guggenheim Foundation.
- Spanning 80,000 square metres, The Frank Gehry-designed building features 30 galleries with 11,600 square metres of indoor space and Ten sculptural cones reaching heights of up to 88 metres.
- DCT Abu Dhabi chairman Mohamed Khalifa Mubarak said the collection focuses on underrepresented artists, noting, "The collection itself is truly global," and presents art through an Abu Dhabi lens rather than geography.
- Total value of property traded in the capital reached 117 billion dirhams in the first half of the year, amid a 100 billion dirham waterfront expansion on Saadiyat Island.
