Tories ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ in Aberdeen South by-Election
The contest is expected to be a photo finish as voters weigh the North Sea industry and tactical voting, with the Scottish Tories cautiously optimistic.
MSP Douglas Lumsden won the Aberdeen South by-election, securing victory in a contest framed as a referendum on the future of North Sea oil and gas.

Robert Gordon University's Energy Transition Institute warned the offshore workforce could plummet from around 75,000 in 2024 to as low as 45,000 by the early 2030s, a decline that dominated doorstep conversations.
In his victory speech, Lumsden said voters had spoken "loud and clear," adding, "I share your anger, I share your frustration, and I share your fears for the future."
SNP insiders warned the result demands an honest reckoning, stating, "The SNP should be on the side of Scottish workers — the fact the Tories have managed to persuade people they are that party is something we need to take very seriously.
