AAP leader Satyendar Jain granted bail in Delhi Jal Board corruption case
- On Thursday, a Delhi court granted bail to former Water Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain in a Delhi Jal Board corruption case lodged by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said, "Bail plea is allowed."
- The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Jain on August 18 alongside former DJB CEO Udit Prakash Rai and four others, alleging criminal conspiracy and tender manipulation in sewage treatment plant projects. The case stems from a May 11, 2024, complaint by the Directorate of Vigilance.
- Investigators allege restrictive tender conditions favored Euroteck Environment Private Limited, while the FIR invokes Sections 420, 409, 418, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code alongside Prevention of Corruption Act provisions. The Directorate alleged "large-scale irregularities" and "criminal conspiracy" in the tendering process.
- The court directed Jain to furnish a personal bond of 2 lakh rupees along with two sureties of 2 lakh rupees each. On August 19, the court had refused to declare his arrest illegal and sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
- Investigators claim changed technical specifications resulted in significant financial implications for the government exchequer, including a cost escalation of around Rs 123 crore in the Rohini sewage treatment plant. Legal proceedings remain ongoing as the case progresses through the courts.
