A wildfire-focused bill to ban beaver hunting on public lands dies in committee

Bill was rejected after debate despite supporters citing beavers' role in wildfire resilience; Colorado Parks and Wildlife estimates 43,000 to 64,000 beavers statewide.

A bill that would have banned recreational beaver hunting on Colorado public lands was killed in committee on Monday, March 23, after a four-hour debate.  House Bill 1323 was introduced by a group of Democratic lawmakers including Reps. Mandy Linsday, of Aurora, and Elizabeth Velasco, of Glenwood Springs, and Sens.
