[Yomitan] Chibichirigama in Yomitan Village is the site of a mass suicide (forced mass death) during the Battle of Okinawa. Kiyoshi Higa (78) of Namihira in the same village, whose grandparents were victims, visits the memorial service every year. His late father, Hiranobu, rarely spoke about his parents' final moments or his own feelings. Knowing his father's suffering, Higa says, "We must never let war happen again."
