Former world rally champion Ott Tänak is currently testing next year's Toyota model, but this does not necessarily mean a return to the World Rally Championship as a driver.
At the end of 2025, the then Hyundai driver Ott Tänak had withdrawn from the Rally World Championship. Now, the 38-year-old Este is developing the new car for Toyota for the World Championship Rally Regulations from 2027 onwards.
The break didn't last long. With a final rally in Saudi Arabia in November in Hyundai i20 Rally1, Tänak had created the surprise by announcing his "retreat from the WRC", wanting to take a break to distance himself from the competition. Ott Tänak returned to the rally car on Thursday as he tested the Toyota team's race car for next season. The collaboration will continue until the end of the year.
