The killer whale that stranded in Grafarvogur last night has returned to the sea and is free to roam. It had come out of the skerries at the floodplain around 5:30 today, but rescuers helped it out and followed it out of the shallows.

An orca washed ashore near the golf course by Korpúlfsstaðir in Grafarvogur last night, reports RÚV. Davíð Friðjónsson, a shift supervisor with the Capital Area Fire Department, said the outgoing tide limited what rescue teams could do at the time. The whale was covered with a wet sheet and kept damp throughout the night in an effort to keep it alive. A killer whale stranded in Gorvík at Korpúlfsstaður in Grafarvogur this evening. Davíð Friðjónsson, chief of the Capital Region Fire Department, says that the whale is moving away from the shore and that there is little that can be done for it at the moment.
