A Robot that Jumps in Response to Light

Researchers at North Carolina State University have created soft, teardrop-shaped robots that can jump upward or forward when illuminated by infrared light, and continue to do so as long as the light is shining on them, without having to readjust between each jump. The research provides a new mechanism for creating repetitive, self-regulating jumping motion in soft robots.
