Two People Try to Disrupt Israel's Eurovision Song
- During the Eurovision 2025 final in Basel, two pro-Palestinian demonstrators tried to breach the stage barrier during Israeli artist Yuval Raphael's performance at the St Jakobshalle arena.
- The disruption came after previous protests in Basel opposing Israel's participation, including an incident during Raphael's rehearsal when a small group carrying large flags and using whistles interrupted her performance.
- After Raphael's act, a man and a woman tried to reach the stage barrier, with one throwing paint at a crew member who was unharmed; both were removed and handed to police before release.
- Raphael, age 24 and an October 7 survivor, finished second with 357 points for the song 'New Day Will Rise', behind Austria’s JJ who won with 436 points and 'Wasted Love'.
- The incident highlights ongoing tensions surrounding Israel's participation amid widespread calls for its removal due to human rights concerns, though attempts to expel Israel from Eurovision have failed.
