Ignis mission ready for lift-off
ESA project astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is heading to the International Space Station on his first mission as part of Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4). He is the second ESA project astronaut from a new generation of Europeans to fly on a commercial human spaceflight mission with Axiom Space.
MP Aleksandra Uznańska-Wiśniewska — the daughter of Radosław Wiśniewski, founder of the Redan company — is today known mainly as the wife of Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, who is scheduled to fly to the International Space Station on Wednesday, June 11. They got married in January 2025. We recall the conversation with Wiśniewska conducted during the last parliamentary campaign in 2023.
"I had just flown in from Poland, straight from the Sejm session. It was my first day in Florida, the first time I saw my husband in quarantine."
After almost half a century, Poland is sending its astronaut into space again. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will take part in a mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
On Wednesday, June 11, a Pole, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski (41), together with three other astronauts, will begin the approximately two-week mission Axiom Space 4 on the International Space Station (ISS). In Łódź, Sławosz's hometown, no one has any doubts: he wanted to reach for the stars. Hard work, persistence and vast knowledge are leading him to them.
Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski has not been trained in going into space and does not have a suitable spacesuit - said IGNIS mission manager Dr. Bukała. She added that due to variable weather conditions, the Polish astronaut's flight time could take from 6 to 40 hours.
