As of July 17, Quebec restaurateurs will be able to impose a maximum penalty of $10 per person in the event of a phantom reservation.
The reservations concerned are those of two or more persons, not from five as previously envisaged.
The measure comes into force on 17 July.

Quebec is to allow restaurants to charge $10 for no‑shows*. Although ten bucks will hardly offset the loss of an entire table during the dinner rush, it’s at least an acknowledgement of the problem. *Note to OQLF, is “no-show” also partiellement légitimé if TVA uses it?
