Shooter Targeted NFL over Its Handling of Head Injuries
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, JUL 29 – Shane Tamura, who claimed to suffer from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, killed four people and injured others at NFL headquarters before committing suicide, authorities said.
- On Monday, July 28, 2025, Shane Devon Tamura entered 345 Park Avenue and opened fire, killing an off-duty NYPD officer and injuring another before shooting himself.
- His suicide note referenced CTE and targeted the NFL, as Shane Devon Tamura claimed to suffer from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Adams said.
- Starting on Park Avenue, Tamura struck a female bystander and disabled a security guard, then mistakenly rode to the 33rd floor offices of Rudin Management where he killed three victims, totaling four in the incident.
- Goodell said one NFL employee was seriously injured but is now stable, warning of `increased security presence` at league’s offices and allowing New York-based staff to work remotely or take the day off.
- She noted he recently drove from Las Vegas to New York City, and a preliminary police investigation found no evidence Tamura suffered from CTE, Jessica Tisch said.
