An unusual guest has appeared in Lower Silesia. Employees of the Jugów Forest District have observed a griffon vulture. This impressive bird occurs in southern Europe and Africa, but can sometimes be seen in Poland.
This has not happened for years. The griffon vulture – a powerful bird with a wingspan of almost three meters – has settled in Poland. The animal has been seen, among others, at the municipal waste management plant in Konin. The specimen has caught the attention of ornithologists and photographers from all over the country, and the president of the local company himself does not hide his pride in the unusual guest.
A unique observation of a griffon vulture, one of the largest birds of prey in Europe, was made in the Owl Mountains. The predator, rarely seen in this part of the continent, was captured by a nature camera from the Jugów Forest District while feeding in the field. Are we dealing with a one-off phenomenon or the beginning of a new migration trend?
