How many "chain women" there are in China remains a mystery. Recently, Li Lan, a 70-year-old woman in Lanzhou, Gansu, sought help under her real name. Her daughter had been abducted and was giving birth. The police station chief confirmed her daughter was at the home of a man surnamed Zhang but refused to help. When the woman went to the home herself, she was beaten.
