A major fire has broken out in Karlovac, spreading from a chemical company building to a nearby store warehouse. Firefighters have already contained the fire, and no one has required medical attention so far, city authorities announced, which had previously issued a warning to residents.
"The message to citizens is not to open windows and not go outside. Especially the elderly, children and people with respiratory problems," said the commander of the Karlovac JVP.
Deputy Mayor of Karlovac and commander of the city's Civil Protection Staff Ivana Fočić confirmed to reporters at the fire site that the worst-case scenario had been avoided. “It is evident that the fire is practically extinguished, which is very important. Firefighters are still doing their job,” she said.
