OLAF supports coordinated crackdown on cross-border counterfeit cigarette network in Italy and Romania
The European Anti-Fraud Office played an important coordination role in a large-scale joint operation that dismantled a cross-border criminal network involved in the illicit production and smuggling of counterfeit cigarettes, with estimated evaded duties totalling approximately €9.8 million.
The criminal group led by an Italian citizen operated in Romania between 2019 and 2024.
The European Park (EPPO), led by the Kodruza Kovesi, sent a criminal file to the Bucharest Tribunal, with a request for prosecution, to three persons who would be involved in a fraud of EUR 100 million.
