Forever 30: Charlotte Hornets Raise Dell Curry's Jersey to the Rafters

  • At halftime, the Hornets raised Dell Curry’s No. 30 during Thursday night’s game against the Orlando Magic, making him the second player with a retired jersey beside Bobby Phills.
  • Having spent 10 seasons in Charlotte, Curry, who played 16 NBA seasons including 10 in Charlotte, was the franchise’s last original player when he left after the 1997-98 season.
  • Hornets hosted a private pregame reception where North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein presented Curry the Order of the Long Leaf Pine and a donation was made to the Boys & Girls Club of America.
  • The honor extends beyond Charlotte as Hornets owners Schnall and Plotkin said Curry ‘epitomizes what it means to have Hornets DNA’ and his No. 30 is also retired by Virginia Tech.
  • As a longtime broadcaster for the team, Curry still leads the franchise in games played and is second in points scored behind Kemba Walker, who now serves as a coach.
