FRANCE, JUL 17 – Court found no proof of a planned sacrifice but gave the parents 18-month suspended sentences for neglect and placed the child with maternal grandparents, officials said.
- On July 17, 2025, Marie and Florian L, a French couple, appeared in court facing allegations that they intended to kill their five-year-old son in the desert of Morocco.
- In December 2023, the couple was apprehended in southern Spain while attempting to cross to Morocco by ferry, following their decision to sublet their apartment in Bordeaux and purchase a new vehicle.
- Relatives alerted prosecutors that Florian L believed his son was possessed and intended to sacrifice him, but the parents deny harming plans and reject charges of criminal gang involvement and parental neglect.
- The child described feeling frightened and chilly, mentioning a ritual involving the removal of an internal "snake," while the child’s attorney argued that the parents' mystical practices posed a serious threat to his safety.
