A Chocolate Corny Dog Joins 14 Other Texas Fair Finalists Eyeing the Boldest Bite
A 35-person panel will choose winners Tuesday from a record 77 entries by 46 concessionaires, with new fair foods set to debut this fall.
The State Fair of Texas revealed 15 Big Tex Choice Awards finalists after blind judging narrowed a record 77 entries from 46 concessionaires. A panel of 35 judges will crown winners on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Blind judging ensured each entry stood on its own merits without vendor name bias. Every concessionaire met the baseline requirement of at least two years of experience at the Fair to submit an original recipe.
Tom Grace's Flamin Crunch Pizza features "Hot Cheetos, a drizzle of jalapeo queso blanco, house-made buffalo buttermilk ranch dressing and a heavy dusting of Flamin." Beck Fletcher's Chocolate Corny Dog competes in the sweet category.
The Garza family's Holy Flan and Milton and Gracie Whitley's Corn Flake Shapp compete among diverse finalists spanning savory, sweet, and sipper categories. Semifinalists not making the final round will debut as new concession items when the Fair opens Sept. 25.
While the panel crowns winners on Tuesday, the real verdict comes from fairgoers who sample these creations throughout the event. The Fair runs through Oct. 18, giving visitors the opportunity to taste all the new concession items introduced this fall.
