A 5.0-magnitude earthquake strikes Tonga.

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Tonga Islands in the South Pacific Ocean today. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake struck 173 kilometers southeast of Bangi at a depth of 10 kilometers. No casualties or damage were reported. Tonga is located northwest of New Zealand and Australia and is an archipelago of 176 islands scattered in the South Pacific Ocean, of which only 52 are inhabited.
