A 5-star edge rusher and the top player in Virginia has committed to LSU football
Highly-rated Virginia edge rusher Chris Whitehead commits to LSU, bolstering the Tigers' 2027 recruiting class.
On Wednesday, five-star edge rusher Chris Whitehead announced his commitment to LSU football, choosing the Tigers over finalists Ohio State, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech.
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has secured nine commitments for the 2027 recruiting class in the past 10 days, rapidly revamping the program's roster following his November hire.
Standing 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Whitehead ranks as the No. 1 player in Virginia and the No. 31 recruit nationally. He recorded 54 tackles and 10.5 sacks during his junior season at Lloyd C. Bird High School.
Whitehead becomes the 13th overall prospect in the 2027 class alongside four-star running back Trey Martin. LSU now holds commitments from two of the nation's top 10 edge rushers, including KJ Green.
With 10 prospects rated as four-star recruits or better, the Tigers are positioned to potentially finish the 2027 cycle with a top-10 class, marking a major turnaround for the program.
