Cubas electrical grid collapsed nationwide on Friday after a high-voltage transmission failure, leaving millions without power and marking at least the sixth partial or total grid failure since January. Authorities began a gradual restoration as chronic fuel shortages and ageing infrastructure continue to strain the islands power system.
In Cuba, the National Electricity System was completely disabled on 18 September, and UNE announced that the operator had begun to apply the protocols to restore the power supply. UNE did not state the cause of the accident.
