8 Killed, 13 Injured in Accident at ‘Selfie Point’ on Pune’s Navale Bridge; Traffic Advisory Issued
A suspected brake failure caused a heavy truck to collide with multiple vehicles, killing seven and injuring about 20, with a resulting fire involving three vehicles, officials said.
- On Thursday evening, seven people burned to death and about 20 others were injured after a speeding truck collided on Navale Bridge in Pune city.
- Suspected brake failure sent the heavy container truck out of control on the Navale Bridge slope, hitting multiple vehicles around 5.30 pm.
- Rescue teams including eight fire tenders and water tankers, ambulances, cranes and JCBs doused the flames and shifted the injured as Devendra Potphode said seven charred bodies were retrieved.
- Authorities initiated an FIR and probe at Sinhagad Road Police Station, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced ₹5 lakh ex-gratia, and officials are identifying the truck driver and cleaner while bodies were sent to Sassoon Hospital for postmortem.
- The Navale Bridge is listed as a black spot by the Integrated Road Accident Database, with past incidents including a November 2022 pileup hitting at least 48 vehicles and an October 2023 crash killing four.
