78-Year-Old Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Partner’s Death in Laval
On Wednesday, 78-year-old Ronald Thibault was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 77-year-old partner, Monique Thibault Poirier, in the Chomedey district of Laval.
Laval police responded to an apartment building on Jean-Béraud Street around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday following reports of two injured people; Poirier was pronounced dead at the scene, while Thibault was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators are determining if the incident qualifies as a femicide, marking the second time in a week a woman has been murdered in her residence in the province.
Following case submission to the Quebec Crown prosecutor's office, Thibault appeared in court by video conference on Wednesday after hospital interviews with investigators.
