76ers Hire Cavaliers’ Mike Gansey to Be Team President

On Friday, the Philadelphia 76ers agreed to hire Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey as their new president of basketball operations, sources confirmed to The Inquirer.
Bob Myers, president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, led the search after ownership fired Daryl Morey earlier this month following the Sixers' second-round playoff elimination.
The 43-year-old Gansey, a Northeast Ohio native, joined the Cavaliers in 2011 and served as general manager since 2022, earning 2016-17 G League Executive of the Year honors managing the Cleveland Charge.
Myers will work closely with Gansey and remain involved in "high-level decision making" surrounding roster moves. The hiring concluded this week after final-stage interviews that also included Phoenix Mercury executive Nick U'Ren.
Gansey inherits a Sixers team that finished 45-37 in the regular season after a dramatic Game 7 playoff upset of the Boston Celtics, before losing to the New York Knicks in the second round.
