- Charlene Kirby, a 75-year-old Colorado woman, broke her femur in a crash in early June near her rural McCoy home and spent nearly 14 hours crawling for help.
- The accident happened when her trailer jackknifed and the side-by-side vehicle she was using almost ran over her after she fell backwards while trying to escape it.
- Kirby used her medical knowledge as a former first responder and ER nurse to cautiously crawl inch by inch from about 7 p.m. to 9 a.m., praying for protection and hoping her son would arrive early.
- After her son discovered her near the property and called for medical help, Kirby underwent surgery on her hip and femur on June 9, followed by a three-week rehabilitation period before returning to her residence on July 3, coinciding with her grandson's wedding celebrations.
- Kirby credited her survival to God’s presence throughout the ordeal and said her story reflects the resilience and community culture in McCoy, where she was born and raised.
