Mystery over woman found dead in bin bag in Liverpool park as police rule out more than 70 names

Detectives have received 160 public reports and ruled out 73 people as they continue trying to identify the woman and trace her killer.

  • Merseyside Police renewed an appeal today to identify a woman whose body was discovered in a walled garden at Stanley Park on Friday, August 28. Detectives continue their murder investigation with public assistance.
  • The victim is described as white, believed to be around 70 years old, approximately 5ft 2in tall, and of slight build with strawberry blonde hair. She was wearing a distinctive pink Nike T-shirt when found.
  • Officers have received 160 reports from the public and eliminated 73 individuals from their enquiries. Investigators spoke to occupants of 625 properties, reviewed CCTV from 30 cameras, and established a DNA profile with no database match.
  • Police are investigating if a pink suitcase found in the park is linked to the discovery two weeks ago. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald urged anyone who flew drones over the area to check footage.
  • Anyone with information can contact Merseyside Police via social media @MerPolCC, through their Public Portal, or by calling 101. Anonymous reports are accepted via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
