Truck Rams Car From Behind on Samruddhi Expressway, Kills Five Near Wardha
Police said 6 people died after a truck hit a stationary car and both vehicles caught fire, disrupting traffic on the expressway.
Six people died on Monday, July 20, 2026, when an Eicher truck rammed into a car on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Wardha district. Four car passengers and two truck occupants perished after both vehicles caught fire.
The collision occurred at around 3 a.m. near Virul village under Pulgaon Police Station jurisdiction. Teams from the Highway Safety Patrol, Wardha Police, and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation rushed to the scene for rescue operations.
While one truck cleaner sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment, authorities shifted the deceased to Pulgaon Rural Hospital for post-mortem examination. Traffic on the expressway was regulated during site clearance operations.
Police advised motorists traveling from Nagpur to Mumbai to avoid the Samruddhi Expressway up to Wardha for several hours. Officials directed traffic to use the Nagpur-Amravati Highway and rejoin through the Amravati gate interchange.
Notably, the 701-km Samruddhi Expressway recorded 185 accidents in 2025, a 35% increase from the 137 recorded in 2024. The highway is currently implementing an Intelligent Traffic Management System to enhance road safety.
Maharashtra Accident: Highway Police and Pulgaon Police quickly reached the spot, started rescue operations and took steps to normalize traffic on the expressway.
