Thousands without Power After Severe Weather
Crews are working to restore power after severe storms left more than 6,000 customers without electricity and closed Hopewell schools Tuesday.
Severe storms moved through the area Monday night, causing widespread power outages across Lorain County and Hopewell. FirstEnergy reports more than 6,000 customers lost power in Lorain, while the Dominion Energy Outage Map showed around 2,900 households without power in Hopewell.
Hopewell Public Schools will remain closed Tuesday as cleanup efforts continue following the severe weather. The City of Hopewell Convenience Center is also closed Tuesday, with details on debris disposal and reopening dates to be provided once available.
Utility and Public Works crews are working to restore power and clear blocked roadways. Officials urge motorists to avoid active work zones and use alternate routes if encountering blocked roadways.
City officials advise residents to stay away from downed trees and power lines, always assuming they are energized. Residents should not attempt to move downed utility equipment or drive over power lines.
Power restoration is expected around 11:30 a.m. for some areas as crews continue operations. Residents can monitor the News 5 Weather Team for updates or email the CBS 6 Newsroom with additional information.
