Two US service members killed, one missing following Iranian strikes in Jordan
CENTCOM said four other troops were evacuated for treatment and later discharged as U.S. casualties in the war rose to 16.
U.S. Central Command said two American service members were killed and another remains missing following an Iranian missile and drone attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Several others were injured, with four evacuated for treatment before later being released.
The attack marks the first direct U.S. military deaths from Iranian fire since the current round of hostilities began, representing a significant escalation in the conflict between Washington and Tehran.
The air base has been used by U.S. forces for operations in the region and has been targeted repeatedly by Iranian missiles and drones in recent days. The latest strike caused the most severe U.S. casualties so far.
CENTCOM said the identities of the deceased and missing service members are being withheld until next of kin have been notified. An investigation into the attack and the missing service member's status is ongoing.
The attack comes amid an expanding exchange of strikes between the U.S. and Iran across the Middle East. The deaths increase pressure on U.S. leaders as military operations continue and concerns grow over a wider regional conflict.
