Summary by 19FortyFive
One RIM-7 Sea Sparrow from aircraft carrier USS Saratoga struck the Turkish destroyer's bridge area, killing five sailors including her commanding officer, Captain Kudret Gungor. More than twenty others were wounded. At that range the Muavenet, which had no reason to expect an attack, had no time to react. She never returned to Turkish service.
