India School Roof Collapse Kills Seven Children
JHALAWAR DISTRICT, RAJASTHAN, INDIA, JUL 25 – The government school roof collapsed likely due to heavy rainfall and poor maintenance, killing four children and injuring 17, with three to four in critical condition, officials said.
- On Friday morning, a government school building collapsed in Piplodi village of Manoharthana block, killing four children and injuring 17 others, police said.
- According to Jhalawar collector Ajay Singh, the district administration had recently instructed reporting of dilapidated school buildings but this one did not figure in the list, contributing to the collapse, rainfall worsened the structure, and oversight in reporting.
- Rescuers at the site mobilized heavy machinery and emergency teams, teachers and villagers cleared debris, and injured children were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Manoharthana.
- Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar expressed deep sorrow, pledged treatment costs, ordered an inquiry, while President Droupadi Murmu wished `I wish for the speedy recovery of the students injured in this accident.`
- In response, authorities are reviewing, while local residents have demanded a high-level probe and actions, to fix accountability and prevent future tragedies.
