48-hour isolation alert as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons recall fruit
On Tuesday, the Food Standards Agency announced that fruit supplier Prepworld recalled multiple pre-packaged fruit products sold at major supermarkets throughout Britain following tests that detected Salmonella.
Testing identified "Salmonella in apple and kiwi used in the products," prompting the recall of ready-to-eat fruit pots at retailers including Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, M&S, Sainsbury's, and Waitrose.
"Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps," the FSA warned, advising consumers to return affected items for a full refund and stay home until symptoms subside for at least 48 hours.
Retailers removed affected products from shelves with point-of-sale notices explaining that customers who purchased items with use-by dates of June 23 or 24 should not consume them.
Salmonella causes salmonellosis, an intestinal infection affecting up to 23,000 people in Britain annually, underscoring risks associated with fresh produce contamination.
