Private Spaceflight Ends with a Pacific Splashdown for Astronauts From India, Poland and Hungary
INDIA, JUL 16 – The mission completed over 60 international experiments during an 18-day ISS stay, marking India's first astronaut aboard the station and supporting future spaceflight programs.
- The Axiom-4 crew undocked from the ISS on July 14, 2025, aboard the SpaceX Dragon capsule Grace, beginning their return to Earth.
- The mission followed the June 26 launch from Kennedy Space Center and an 18-day stay supporting over 60 experiments contributed by 31 nations.
- The crew consisted of commander Peggy Whitson, pilot Shubhanshu Shukla from India, and mission specialists Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski and Tibor Kapu, all on their first spaceflight for their countries.
- Whitson said, "Space Station, Grace," as Grace performed automated departure burns on a 22.5-hour trajectory aimed at splashdown off California early July 15.
- The mission advances commercial spaceflight efforts while NASA plans to retire the ISS by 2030, with Axiom developing private orbital operations and future stations.
