At the end of the last year, 36.3 percent of the 236,773 people deprived of their liberty in Mexico did not have a sentence, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) revealed, when it announced the results of the National Censuses of Prison Systems at the federal and state levels (Cnsipef-e) of 2025.
Almost 86,000 persons held in Pa s prisons, 36.3% of the total, were awaiting sentence at the close of 2024, according to Inegi.
At the end of June 2025, at least 2,752 persons deprived of liberty in prisons in the state of Puebla had no sentence, according to the National Census of the Federal and State Prison System of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), 262 of whom were women and 2,490 men, representing approximately 37 per cent of all inmates in State prisons, a proportion close to the national average of 36.3 per cent.

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reported that Tamaulipas prisons do not show saturation, maintaining an occupation level of 62 per cent, according to the most recent data from the National Census of Federal and State Prison Systems.
