L3Harris Announces $1.27 Billion Expansion Project at Virginia Site
The project will create more than 350 jobs and more than double solid rocket motor manufacturing space, the company said.
- On Wednesday, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger announced L3Harris is spending $1.3 billion to expand solid rocket motor manufacturing at its Orange County operations, creating more than 350 jobs over five years and nearly doubling production space.
- Rising weapons demand prompted Congress to authorize multiyear defense contracts, supporting L3Harris's missile solutions business launched in January with $1 billion Department of Defense backing.
- The advanced campus will feature five robotically enabled SRM facilities with casting and assembly centers supporting multiple Department of Defense programs, building on a $41.2 million Javelin propulsion project expected to complete this year.
- L3Harris targets an initial public offering for the missile solutions business in the second half of 2026, with Missile Solutions President Kenneth Bedingfield projecting $4.4 billion in revenue, nearly a 16% increase from 2025.
- Virginia has attracted multiple defense manufacturers including Solstice Advanced Materials and Italy-based Avio, while Gov. Spanberger signed legislation earlier this month establishing a grant fund providing Avio up to $6 million annually through 2046.
