Jean Boulet, longtime CAQ cabinet minister, won't seek re-election
Boulet’s departure raises the number of CAQ MNAs leaving politics to 32 as the party prepares for an election on Oct. 5.
On June 17, 2026, Quebec Labour Minister Jean Boulet announced he will not seek re-election in the Oct provincial vote, ending his tenure as MNA for Trois-Rivières.
Boulet becomes the 32nd Coalition Avenir member to depart, joining about 30 high-profile legislators, including Housing Minister Caroline Proulx and Education Sonia Lebel, stepping down before the election.
Throughout his eight-year career, Boulet managed portfolios including Labour, Immigration, and Canadian Relations, and spearheaded controversial reforms to the Parental Insurance Act under Legault and Premier Christine.
Rather than attending the final cabinet meeting in Quebec City, Boulet traveled to Ottawa on June 17, 2026, to represent the government at an official celebration.
Boulet reiterated his support for Premier Christine and denied the party's low polling numbers influenced his decision to pursue new professional opportunities after the Oct election.
