- In March 2023 the B.C. Supreme Court certified the class action after plaintiffs alleged abuse from 1976 to 2013 at Vancouver College and 1976 to 1989 at St. Thomas More.
- The proposed settlement sets out a two-tier claims process: tier-one claimants can seek up to $30,000 for less severe effects, while tier-two claimants face detailed reviews and documentation considerations.
- In statements, the schools said the settlement is a step forward, and court documents show it would bar further claims against settled defendants while some individual defendants remain outside the deal.
- The B.C. Supreme Court will hear the matter on April 30 and May 1, considering class counsel fees that could reach one-third and the nearly $105-million Mount Cashel settlement precedent.
