3 people were fatally wounded before shooter killed self in N.J. town, cops say
A domestic dispute led to the deaths of three family members and the shooter, who killed himself after the incident, authorities said.
- On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, three people were killed in a triple murder-attempted suicide in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, New Jersey, and Vaughn Stewart, 37, of Maplewood, was pronounced dead at a hospital in Toms River.
- Amid limited official details, the suspect is the father of three children he shared with one of the victims, and the couple had been living separately.
- Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 5 a.m. and found the homeowners dead, with shell casings about 50 yards from the house and three children unharmed inside.
- Authorities said there is no ongoing threat as officials confirmed no danger to the public and a heavy police presence remained at midday, while Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said 'This investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information will be released at the appropriate time'.
- The Department of Child Protection and Permanency said, three minor children were unharmed and are now in state care after neighbors sheltered during the gunfire near Shorewood Drive and Mill Creek area.
