2 More Men Charged with Murder in Alberta Cough Syrup Poisoning Death

Investigators say the case now has three accused after new evidence linked the pair to the alleged drug-related killing.

  • Alberta RCMP charged Harmanjot Chumber of Edmonton and Dalvir Sidhu of Rocky View County with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the 2020 fatal poisoning of 18-year-old Sahil Grewal in Chestermere.
  • Grewal died in hospital April 6, 2020, three days after consuming fentanyl-laced cough syrup; police allege the substance was also intended for 25-year-old Jaskaran Sidhu, who did not consume it.
  • Last year, Alberta RCMP charged 24-year-old Mohit Sandhu of Conrich with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the same case, bringing the total number of accused individuals to three.
  • Chumber was arrested in Edmonton on July 22, while Dalvir Sidhu surrendered to police in Calgary on July 24; both are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on August 7 and August 10.
  • The allegations against the accused have not been tested in court, though authorities state further evidence determined Chumber and Dalvir Sidhu were also parties to the alleged offences.
